Troy Chromatic Concerts: National Symphony of Cuba | Lecuona, Mozart, Fariñas, Roldán and more

Troy Chromatic Concerts continues its 121st season by bringing back the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba to the Capital Region. The celebrated orchestra was last in the region at Proctors in October 2012 with a program of Gershwin, Lecuona, and Beethoven. With this Troy Chromatic performance, the orchestra’s program will focus on classical music of Latin America.

With the orchestra’s Principal Conductor Enrique Pérez Mesa on the podium, the distinguished orchestra is to perform:

  • W.A. Mozart — Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622
  • Manuel de FallaThe Three-Cornered Hat: Suite No. 2
  • Carlos FariñasPunto y Tonades
  • Pablo de SarasateCarmen Fantasy, Op. 25
  • Amadeo RoldánTre Pequenos Poemas
  • Maurice Ravel — Boléro

The program features Principal Clarinetist Antonio Dorta and violinist Arial Sarduy.

Since its inception in 1959, the National Symphony of Cuba has been instrumental in developing and introducing Cuban and Latin American music to the worldwide music community, in addition to covering a vast symphonic and chamber repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary music. International tours have taken the orchestra to Russia, Poland, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Spain, Peru, and Argentina. This Troy Chromatic Concert is part of the Orchestra’s second tour to the United States.
