The Mark Morris Dance Group returns to Seiji Ozawa Hall at the Tanglewood Music Center to perform Lou 100: In Honor of the Divine Mr. Harrisona centenary tribute to Lou Harrison, one of choreographer Mark Morris‘ favorite composers. All four pieces within this program, including the world premiere of Numerator, are set to Lou Harrison’s work.

The New Fromm Players [Samantha Bennett and Xiaofan Liu, violins; Mary Ferrillo, viola; Francesca McNeeley, 'cello; George Fu, piano] join the MMGD in this performance.

The works on the program include:

Pacific
Lou Harrison — Trio for violin, cello, and piano, 3rd and 4th movements
Serenade
Lou Harrison — Serenade for guitar and percussion
Numerator (world premiere)
Lou Harrison — Varied Trio for violin, piano, and  percussion
Grand Duo
Lou Harrison — Grand Duo for violin and piano

Lou Harrison was a friend, and his music has been a decades-long inspiration to me as a choreographer. I’ve made up dances to many of his scores and there exist many more that are varied, extravagant, and irresistible. Lou said, ‘Music is a Song and a Dance.’ Not only do I agree, but he was absolutely right. I gratefully and humbly celebrate his centenary.” — Mark Morris
