South Mountain Concerts: Dover Quartet with pianist Peter Serkin | Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Brahms

Founded in 1918 through the vision and generosity of the American patroness of music, Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, South Mountain Concerts presents an annual chamber music series each year during early fall. Its Concert Hall, built in 1918 and now on the National Register of Historic Buildings, was specifically designed for chamber music and was built in a colonial style using timber from an old textile mill.

In its fourth concert of the 2017 series, the Dover Quartet [Joel Link and Bryan Lee, violins; Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, viola; Camden Shaw,'cellist] is joined by pianist Peter Serkin to perform a program that is to include:

  • Felix Mendelssohn – Four Pieces for String Quartet, Op. 81
  • Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11
  • Johannes Brahms – Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34
