Seagle Music Colony: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead | Garfein

Thursday, July 20th 2017 at 8:00 pm

The Seagle Music Colony, the oldest summer singer training program in the country, was founded in 1915 by world renowned baritone Oscar Seagle. Celebrating its 102nd season in summer 2017, Seagle Music Colony continues to be the premier opera and musical theatre producing organization in New York’s Adirondack region.

Seagle’s season continues with the first full performances of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, a hilarious new comic opera with a score and libretto by composer Herschel Garfein. Based on the play by the renowned Tom Stoppard, the opera–like the play–expands on the exploits of two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. With accessible and tuneful musical style and lots of comedy, this piano-vocal premiere will no doubt be a must-see event.

The Seagle Music Colony production is sung in English with projected English supertitles. It is directed by Richard Kagey with music direction/piano accompaniment by Jennifer McGuire, and conducted by Christopher James Ray.

The cast includes:

  • Aaron Stepanek (July 19, 21), Joshua Cook (July 20, 22) as Rosencrantz
  • Nathaniel Hill (July 19, 21), Zachary Crowle (July 20, 22) as Guildenstern
  • Thomas Petrushka (July 19, 21), Andrew Henry (July 20, 22) as The Player
  • Kevin Bryant as Hamlet
  • Bridget Cappel as Alfred

There is a pre-show talk given one hour prior to each performance. Additional performances are:

July 19th and 22nd at 8:00 pm, and July 21st at 2 pm
