Musicians from Ma’alwyck: “A New Lease on Life” | Schumann, Clarke, Stoyanov, Gardner

Friday, June 9th 2017 at 7:00 pm

In its closing concert of 2016-17 season, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck are joined by guest artists violinist Theodore Arm, violist Andrew Snow, and pianist Palma Catravas for a program entitled “A New Lease on Life.”

In 1842 Robert Schumann produced a series of chamber music works including 3 string quartets, the piano quartet and the glorious piano quintet.  The quintet is paired with the pensive Epilogue of Rebecca Clarke for cello and piano and the dancy Thracian Suite for two violins and piano of Vasily Stoyanov. Also on the program will be the Suite Hebraique of Samuel Gardner (winner of the 1918 Pulitzer Prize for music) for which Musicians of Ma’alwyck will be presenting the local premiere of this beautifully crafted, never published work.

The program:

  • Robert Schumann — Piano Quintet in E-Flat Major, Op. 44
  • Rebecca ClarkeEpilogue
  • Vasily Stoyanov Thracian Suite
  • Samuel Gardner Suite Hebraique
