Kairos Consort: Lessons & Carols | Britten, Poulenc, Marenzio, Schütz, and more

Sunday, December 17th 2017 at 3:00 pm

Under the direction of Edward Lundergan, Kairos – A Consort of Singers continues its music series at the intimate and acoustically superb chapel of the Holy Cross Monastery in West Park (NY). With its annual service of Lessons & Carols, a lovely and meditative part of the Advent season, it provides an opportunity to look forward to Christmas with a contemplative respite from the hectic run-up to holiday celebrations.

The Kairos Consort’s program includes Benjamin Britten‘s Hymn to the Virgin, Francis Poulenc‘s Videntes stellam, a haunting arrangement of the Coventry Carol by Kairos’s own Craig Fryer, and Renaissance motets for the season by Luca Marenzio and Heinrich Schütz, as well as some rarely performed medieval carols.

It is suggested that audience members arrive at the venue at least 20 minutes before the performance to secure seating. Free-will donations will be matched by the Holy Cross community, to benefit local food-based charitable organizations.
