The Glimmerglass Festival presents a new production of Oklahoma!, the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical revolutionized the genre with its closely integrated book and score, in which a diverse assortment of individuals struggle to create lives for themselves in the newly settled Oklahoma Territory. Hit tunes include “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “I Cain’t Say No,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’” and “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top.”

Presented in English with projected English text, the musical is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in 1906 outside the town of Claremore in the Oklahoma Territory, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie.

The cast is led by:

  • Laurey Williams — Vanessa Becerra
  • Curly McLain — Jarrett Ott
  • Ado Annie — Emma Roos
  • Will Parker — Michael Roach

The creative team is lead by the production’s director Molly Smith and music director James Lowe.
