Aston Magna Music Festival with Eric Hoeprich, clarinet | Mozart

Friday, June 23rd 2017 at 8:00 pm

The Aston Magna Music Festival is the nation’s longest running summer festival of early music with period instruments in the hands of virtuoso performers and the finest early music vocalists. This second concert of its 45th season features an all-Mozart concert and clarinetist Eric Hoeprich,

By 1788, Mozart’s successes had not led to full, secure employment and his celebrity status in Vienna was just about exhausted. Nonetheless, a good number of masterpieces were still to be written. This program takes a look at what the fully mature genius was up to in 1788 and 1789 and one of several important works for the clarinet which were mostly inspired by the artistry of Anton Stadler, a fellow Mason and one of Mozart’s close friends among the fraternity of Viennese wind instrumentalists.

The all-W.A. Mozart program, entitled “Late, Great Mozart” is to include

  • Divertimento, K. 563
  • Adagio and Fugue, K. 546
  • Clarinet Quintet, K. 581

The performers are:

  • Eric Hoeprich, basset clarinet
  • Daniel Stepner and Julie Leven, violins
  • David Miller, viola
  • Loretta O’Sullivan, ‘cello

There will be a pre-concert talk with Artistic Director Daniel Stepner one hour before.

This program is also being performed on June 24th in Great Barrington, MA. Click here for details.
